Charles Marc Samama MD, PhD, FCCP

Charles Marc Samama is currently a Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Perioperative Medicine,  AP-HP Centre–Université de Paris, Hôpital Cochin, Paris, France. He is the past chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESAIC) and also the past Chair of the new Scientific Subcommittee on Perioperative and Critical Care Thrombosis and Hemostasis of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). He is the President of the Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA).

Professor Samama has published more than 230 peer-reviewed articles and reviews (H index = 45). He has co-authored the Antithrombotic and Thrombolytic Therapy: American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines 8th edition (“Prevention of venous thromboembolism”) and 9th edition (“Prevention in VTE in non-orthopedic surgical patients”). He is co-authoring the 10th edition (“Perioperative Management of Antithrombotic Agents”). He has co-authored the 2013 ESAIC Guidelines on Management of Severe Perioperative Bleeding and the 2017 update. He chairs the ESAIC Task Force for the prevention of perioperative venous thromboembolism (guidelines published in February 2018 in the EJA, IF 4,5).
