Charles Adler MD, PhD

Charles H. Adler, M.D., Ph.D., is a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders and sports medicine neurology. He is a professor of neurology and co-director of the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center in the Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Adler has received numerous grants to investigate the diagnosis and experimental treatments for Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and restless legs syndrome.

He is co-principal investigator of the Arizona Study of Aging and Neurodegenerative Disorders (AZSAND) and the Arizona Parkinson's Disease Consortium, a consortium of research institutions in Arizona working on early diagnostic markers for Parkinson's's's disease and Parkinson's disease with dementia. They have been funded by the NIH, the Arizona Biomedical Research Commission, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Dr. Adler currently serves on the International Executive Committee of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society (MDS). He has served as the chair of education for the MDS as well as other committee roles. He has served as the vice-chair of research (head of Human Subjects Research) and co-director of the Clinical Studies Unit at Mayo Clinic's Scottsdale, Arizona, campus. He has also served on the editorial board of the journal Movement Disorders, the executive committee of the American Academy of Neurology Section of Movement Disorders and has been vice-chair of the section, and was a member of the medical advisory board of the Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation. Dr. Adler has published over 350 research papers and reviews and edited a book entitled "Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for the Practicing Physician.
