Charles Christoph Roehr MD, PhD

Charles Christoph Roehr (M.D., Ph.D.), a neonatal intensivist and clinical scientist, is an Associate Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Oxford. Since 2019, he has been the Clinical Director of the Clinical Trials Unit within the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU), Dept. Population Health, Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford. Charles worked as a clinical consultant neonatologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust in Oxford, UK, between 2014 - 2019. In June 2021, Charles took up a new clinical position at Bristol Southmead Hospital, where he works as an Honorary Professor of Neonatology and Perinatal Research, at the University of Bristol. Charle's special interest is neonatal stabilization/ resuscitation and non-invasive respiratory support. Charles is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK, and a Research Fellow at Green Templeton College, Oxford.

Charles studied Medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. He received his Paediatric training in the UK (Oxford) and at the Charite University Medical Centre in Berlin. Following the completion of his research and teaching degree at the Charité (the German Habilitation), Charles spent two years as a post-doc researcher and clinician with Professors S. Hooper and P. Davis in Melbourne, Australia (2012-14) before coming to Oxford.

Charles is an avid researcher and a strong proponent of evidence-based neonatology. His main interests are in resuscitation and non-invasive ventilation, on which he has published over 175 peer-reviewed scientific articles. On the European level, Charles is very active as President of the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) and he is the immediate-past NLS Scientific Co-Chair (European Resuscitation Council).
