Cecilia Lo PhD

Dr. Cecilia Lo received her B.S. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ph.D. from Rockefeller University, and postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. She began her academic career as an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania and rose through the ranks to become a full professor. In 2001, she relocated to take on the position of Chief of the Laboratory of Developmental Biology and Director of the Genetics and Developmental Biology Center at the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

In 2009, she relocated to the University of Pittsburgh where she was appointed as the founding chair of a newly created Department of Developmental Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She currently holds the F Sargent Cheever Chair and is a University Distinguished Professor of Developmental Biology. Dr. Lo has had a longstanding interest in developmental biology and the genetic etiology of congenital heart disease. Her laboratory has leveraged their findings in mice to pursue clinical translational studies in patients with congenital heart disease and diseases related to ciliary dysfunction. She also is a visiting Professor of Medicine Therapeutics, and Pediatrics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Genomics and Medicine.
