Catherine Tallon-baudry PhD

Catherine Tallon-Baudry is a CNRS senior researcher in Cognitive Neuroscience at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. She earned her PhD in Neuroscience in Lyon in 1997, working on gamma-band oscillations in humans. She was a post-doctoral Marie-Curie fellow in Andreas Kreiter laboratory in Bremen, Germany, performing some early grid ECoG recordings in monkeys before coming back to Lyon with a tenure position. In 2002 she moved to Hospital Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris to create her own research group.

In 2012 she tool a new position at the Department of Cognitive Sciences at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. Her research interests initially devoted to the role of gamma-band oscillations in perception and cognition, led her to question the view of consciousness as a high-level cognitive function rooted in attention and memory. She now develops the hypothesis that the subjectivity inherent to consciousness relies on an egocentric reference frame, generated in the central nervous system by the neural monitoring of visceral inputs.
