Dr. Catherine Fyans has been a medical practitioner for over 35 years, graduating from Monash University medical school in 1979. She has a passionate interest in ‘mind-body’ medicine, particularly in the subconscious-mind influences on physical and psychological health. Her interest in this area was ignited when she worked with Tibetan refugees in North India in the mid-1980s. There she was exposed to another world-view, which challenged many of the dogmas that were instilled during her medical training. She gained a greater understanding of the role that mind/consciousness plays in health and all aspects of life.
Her interests led her to study a number of other health-care practices, including kinesiology. She enjoys having a ‘foot in both worlds’ and this has given her an insight into the spectrum of health-care practices. She continues to practice as an ‘integrative’ general medical practitioner. Her aim is to combine the best of what these various health-care disciplines have to offer and bring about a greater understanding of the primacy of mind/consciousness in health, well-being, and life in general.
