Catalina Matiz, MD, is originally from Colombia, where she completed her medical school training at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. After finishing medical school, she worked as a rural physician in the Colombian town of Bahía Solano. After that, she moved to the United States, where she completed a pediatrics residency at Penn State and later a dermatology residency at UC San Diego.
She then completed a pediatric dermatology fellowship at Rady Children's Hospital, UC San Diego, and she worked as an assistant professor at Rady Children’s Hospital for five years prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, where she has been the pediatric dermatology lead for several years. She also volunteers at the UC San Diego Free Clinic downtown.
