Cary Austin completed a combined MD-PhD program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1998 and an Anatomic Pathology Residency and Autopsy Fellowship at Stanford University Hospital in 2001. During his last year at Stanford, he began a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Richard H. Scheller and in 2001, moved with the laboratory to Genentech, where he investigated endocytosis and intracellular trafficking of cell surface receptors targeted by cancer therapeutics and armed antibodies. He completed the fellowship in 2005 and joined the Department of Pathology at Genentech, where he has since been providing collaborative pathology support for a variety of pipeline research and development programs and academic-focused projects in basic science, mostly in the areas of Immunology and Infectious Diseases.
