Carsten Reidies Bjarkam was employed as the first clinical professor of neurosurgery at the Neurosurgical Department, Aalborg University Hospital and Clinical Institute, Aalborg University, on April 1, 2017. Carsten Reidies Bjarkam was born in Aalborg. He completed his medical studies at Aarhus University in 1998, and then completed a turnus training in the North Jutland health care system before commencing in 2000 a PhD project in the development of pig models for experimental studies of neuromodulation treatment with brain stimulation electrodes, stem cells and gene therapy.

After completing the PhD in the period 2004-2008, he continued as a full-time researcher at the Anatomical Institute, Aarhus University, where he, in addition to basic research in the brain's structure and function, and further developing the established pig models, also wrote a popular textbook in neuroanatomy for medical students.
