Carrie Tyler started her nursing career at the Whittington Hospital in North London in 1989. It was there she developed her passion for care of the elderly nursing and delivering quality care. In 2002 Carrie started working as a care of the Elderly ward Sister at Colchester Hospital and during this time what started out as a ward based local improvement plan to assist patients experiencing delirium in the acute setting, became chosen as a National High Impact Action 2010, the Tiptree Box. The box was specifically chosen to have items that helped patients with dementia and delirium to achieve wellbeing, and the box also came with a café style table to provide a non-bed space for patients to sit at.
In 2010 Carrie started working as a Falls Prevention CNS using her care of the elderly knowledge and widening her skill base to include all specialities in the acute trust. Now working at Broomfield Hospital as a Falls CNS, Carrie using a different approach to understand falls reduction and management for frailty patients using a Human Factor and evidence based interventions approach. This has been called the Serene Sideroom.
