Caron B. Rockman, MD was interested in medicine, and surgery was initially sparked when we covered dissections in my ninth-grade biology class. Rockman found anatomy absolutely fascinating, and it was at that time that Rockman first thought about being a surgeon. Several years later, when Rockman was 16 years old, my mother gave me a book called The Making of a Woman Surgeon by Dr. Elizabeth Morgan, which Rockman devoured. By the time Rockman arrived at college, Rockman knew Rockman wanted to attend medical school and was set on a career in surgery. My medical school surgery rotation further cemented my interest.

At NYU Langone’s Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Vein Center, Rockman treats people who have all types of vascular conditions, including carotid artery disease, hardening of the arteries of the legs, and varicose veins, and other vein disorders.

Caron B. Rockman, MD enjoys vascular surgery because the proper course of care is not necessarily determined by test results alone. Rather, our patients’ needs and concerns guide our decision-making process. As a vascular surgeon, my expertise allows me to offer people a variety of treatments—watching and waiting, both open surgery and minimally invasive endovascular procedures, as well as medical therapies. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is being able to help a patient avoid major surgery after they’ve been told elsewhere that they need an invasive operation.

Caron B. Rockman, MDclinical research focuses on improving outcomes for people who have vascular disease, and on differences in outcomes of open and minimally invasive procedures. Rockman is also interested in the differences between female and male patients with regard to the results of vascular surgical procedures.

Caron B. Rockman, MD In addition to my work in clinical patient care and research, Rockman is the director of NYU Langone’s vascular surgery residency and fellowship programs. Rockman is also currently the president-elect of the Society for Clinical and Vascular Surgery.
