Carolyn J. Brown BS, MSPA, PhD

Carolyn Brown, PhD is a professor at the University of Iowa with joint appointments in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. She and Paul Abbas, PhD have served as primary investigators on the Electrophysiology Section of the Iowa Cochlear Implant Grant, now in its 30th year of funding. Her early work focused on developing a way to record electrically evoked compound action potentials from cochlear implant recipients. That work led to the development of neural response telemetry (NRT) software. Recently, her focus has been on developing methods to use the same software to record neural responses from cochlear implant users who retain acoustic hearing after surgery.
