Carolina Barnett-tapia MD, PhD

Dr. Carolina Barnett-Tapia, MD, PhD, is a neurologist and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, with appointments in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Institute of Medical Science. She practices at the University Health Network’s Toronto General Hospital, where she specializes in neuromuscular disorders, including myasthenia gravis, inflammatory neuropathies, and neurofibromatosis.

Dr. Barnett-Tapia’s research focuses on patient-centered outcomes and health services in neuromuscular disease, with particular emphasis on understanding patients’ perspectives on symptoms, treatment preferences, and quality of life. Her work integrates clinical epidemiology and health systems research to improve care delivery and inform clinical trial design.

She is actively involved in teaching and mentorship at the University of Toronto, contributing to graduate education in measurement and clinical research methods. In addition to her academic role, she collaborates on international clinical research studies and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications in neurology.
