Carmen Radecki Breitkopf, PhD is a behavioral scientist and Professor of Health Services Research in the Department of Health Sciences Research at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. The broad objectives of her research program include understanding and reducing disparities in health that may result from patient-related factors including socio-demographics, English language proficiency, and cultural beliefs about health and disease. Her expertise includes developing and testing novel, theory-based behavioral interventions in the areas of breast and cervical cancer screening and prevention among minority and vulnerable populations. Her current trial involves testing an intervention to inform screening mammography patients at a federally-qualified health center about their breast density in response to legislation. Her work has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as principal or co-investigator for 15 years. She currently serves as a standing member of the NIH Health Disparities and Equity Promotion study section.
