Carmen Guillen Ponce earned her medical degree from the University Autónoma in Madrid, Spain, in 1999 and became Specialist Medical Oncologist in 2004. In 2009 she received the Doctor of Medicine, with outstanding qualification Cum Laude, from the University of Alcalá, Spain, and a special award for Medical Doctors 2009-2010 as well as the National Award Ulysses for research for the best doctoral thesis (2009-2010). Dr Guillén Ponce has held the Accreditation in Hereditary Cancer from SEOM and the Accreditation in Clinical Genetics from the Spanish Association of Human Genetics (AEGH) since 2015. From 2004 to 2009 she was an attending physician at the University Hospital in Elche (HGUE), Spain, and from 2009 to 2014 coordinator of the Genetic Counselling Unit. From 2009 to 2014 she was an attending physician at the University Hospital Ramón y Cajal (HRC), Madrid, Spain and since 2014 she has been the head of the Digestive Tumours and Familial Cancer Section in the Medical Oncology department and since 2010 she has been also the Coordinator of the Familial Cancer Unit.

Moreover from 2005 to 2007, Dr Guillén Ponce was the Scientific Secretary of the Spanish Medical Oncology Society (SEOM) and coordinator of the Hereditary Cancer Section of SEOM (2012-14). Since 2013 she has been coordinating the Familial Cancer Plan for the Autonomous Community of Madrid. She was also a group member for the Assessment of Hereditary Cancer of the Sanitat Valenciana Council (2005-2009) and a member of the working group of Colon Cancer Oncology of the Autonomous Community of Valencia (2007-2009). Dr Guillén Ponce has been the Principal Investigator (PI) of 4 projects: IRYCIS (2), Autonomous Community of Valencia (ACV) Foundation for Biomedical Research, teaching and International Cooperation and the development of the University Hospital in Elche (1) and SEOM (1), and Sub investigator in 12 more projects.

She has participated as Principal Investigator and Sub investigator in more than 100 clinical trials in digestive tumors. Dr Guillén Ponce is the author of 38 Book chapters and editor of 7. She is the author and editor of the Clinical Practice Guide for Hereditary Cancer of the Autonomous Community of Valencia (2005, 2008, and 2009) and reviewer of the 2015 edition. Author of the ACV Colon Cancer Onco-Guide (2008); author and editor of SEOM book on Hereditary Cancer (2011) and of the chapter: “Clinical Characteristics of Lynch Syndrome”. Coordinator of the SEOM guide for Hereditary Colorectal Cancer (2015). Dr. Guillén Ponce is the author of 135 articles in national and international journals and 253 communications in national and international congresses. She has been An invited participant in over 80 congresses and national and international awards.
