Dr. Carlos Miguel Chiesa Estomba is a Professor at the University of Deusto. He studied medicine at the Francisco de Miranda National Experimental University in Venezuela, graduating in 2009.
Between January 2010 and March 2011, she worked in her native country, also collaborating in low-income areas with limited access to health care through different projects.
He did his residency at the Vigo University Hospital Complex (2012-2016). In the last year of her residency, she completed a stay at the University of Miami to improve her knowledge in the treatment of sinonasal pathology and obtained the European Diploma of Advanced Nasal Surgery at Denis Diderot University in Paris.
In 2016 he trained in Head and Neck Reconstructive Surgery at the Reconstructive Microsurgery European School and between 2017 and 2018 he participated in the training program in Head and Neck Oncological Surgery of the International Federation of Head & Neck Oncological Societies.
Since 2016, they have been working as specialists in the otolaryngology service of Donostia University Hospital, in the area of Head and Neck Surgery.
In 2017 he obtained the Board or European Title of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.
In 2018 he had a stay at the Groote Schuur Hospital (Cape Town, South Africa) due to his interest in the treatment of advanced Head and Neck cancer.
He has attended advanced courses in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in Spain, Italy, France, England, the USA, Portugal, Holland, and Austria.
He is a member of the Basque Societies of Otolaryngology, the Spanish Society of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the International Federation of Otolaryngology, the European Society for Head and Neck Surgery, and the European Society of Laryngology, among others.
He has written more than 40 articles between Book Chapters, Papers, and in Specialty Magazines, some of them in International Magazines with a high impact factor. He works as a reviewer for the Acta Otorrinolaringológica Española, the British Journal of Medicine, and the International Journal of Medical Informatics, among others.
He has participated in numerous Specialty Congresses, mainly in Spain, but also in the Czech Republic, France, Portugal, Italy, South Africa, Belgium, and England.
His clinical interests are head and neck tumor surgery, both benign and malignant, rhinology, as well as general ENT. Regarding basic research, his interest and work are based on the study of salivary gland tumor pathology and laryngeal cancer.
