Costa Almeida Graduated in Medicine from Coimbra's University in 2004 (Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra) and completed his specialization in General Surgery at Centro Hospitalar e Universitario de Coimbra (Hospital Geral). Since 2012 is a General Surgeon working in Portugal and has been working in phlebology, peripheral arterial disease, diabetic foot, leg ulcer, hepatobiliopancreatic surgery, and gastrointestinal oncologic surgery. In 2014 he was in the Kliniken Essen-Mitte (Germany) learning from Prof. Dr. Martin Walz how to perform retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy.
Costa Almeida is the author of the first worldwide report on Almeida-Reis hernia (published in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports) and the first author of several articles published in national and international journals. Has participated as co-investigator in multicenter RCTs, and has been invited as a speaker at several surgery conferences on phlebology and diabetic foot. Member of Sociedade Portuguesa de Cirurgia (Portuguese Society of Surgery) and Sociedade Portuguesa de Cirurgia Minimamente Invasive (Portuguese Society for Minimally Invasive Surgery). Additionally, he was a co-founder of a traditional Coimbra song group (Fado de Coimbra) and was a member of Tuna de Medicina during the 6 years of graduation in Medicine, taking the traditional Coimbra's song through Portugal and Europe.
