Biography :

Dr. Brown was born in Washington D.C. but proud to have been raised a Texan, growing up in Austin, Texas. After graduating from Westlake High School he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas Austin, receiving a Health Professions Scholarship from the United States Navy to pay for medical school. He graduated medical school with high honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston. He went on to perform his surgical internship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. At the completion of internship he was assigned for two years as the Battalion Surgeon for the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, in Camp Pendleton, California, with a follow-on tour as the Senior Medical Officer for the Naval Amphibious Base medical clinic in Coronado, California. He then returned to complete his general surgery residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. Following one year as a practicing general surgeon in San Diego, Dr. Brown completed his trauma and surgical critical care fellowships at the Los Angeles County – University of Southern California Medical Center.

At the conclusion of his fellowship training, Dr. Brown was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Naval Trauma Training Center based in Los Angeles, meanwhile receiving an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor from the University of Southern California, Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. During his time in Los Angeles Dr. Brown prepared nearly 1,000 Navy personnel for deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, received numerous teaching awards from medical students and surgical residents alike, delivered countless national lectures and presentations, and amassed over 100 peer-reviewed publications. The pinnacle of Dr. Brown’s professional career came in August of 2006 when he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq as a trauma surgeon in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon return from his deployment to Iraq, Dr. Brown resigned his commission after 14 years of continuous active duty with the United States Navy. In 2007, Dr. Brown was recruited back to his hometown of Austin, Texas, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern – Austin and the Chief of Trauma at University Medical Center Brackenridge. Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children.
