Carlo began his career as a trainee medical laboratory scientist at St. Vincent’s public hospital in Melbourne, Australia. After graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory) he joined the private sector, quickly moving through the ranks to hold laboratory management positions. Before coming to Dubai in 2005, he was Group Quality Manager for one of the largest private pathology companies in Australia. He has extensive experience with medical laboratory accreditation in that country (administered by the National Testing Authorities of Australia in conjunction with the Royal College of Pathologists) as well as ISO15189.

He left Australia in September 2005 to join the American Hospital Dubai for a supposedly 2-year contract but is still working in the Middle East, where his posts included almost 9 years as Technical Director of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department at American Hospital Dubai, 2 years as CEO of Futurelab Medical Laboratories, the second-largest private medical laboratory group in Saudi Arabia, and 2 years leading the change management, as part of the eHealth Strategy and Change Management Office at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health (MOH). He recently joined Al-Zahra Hospital in Sharjah, UAE as Senior Laboratory and Quality Manager. Mr. Kaabar's professional interests include quality management systems, accreditation, change management, eHealth, healthcare technology, and clinical chemistry. He has presented on these topics in a variety of forums. He is passionate about the human side of laboratory management. For the last nine years, he has organized and chaired the Laboratory Management Track of the MEDLAB Congress held in Dubai. Since 2008, Mr. Kaabar has been participating regularly in College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspections of Middle Eastern laboratories as a volunteer inspector. Mr. Kaabar is an Associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management and a member of the Change Management Institute. He also has a Bachelor of Theology with a counseling major.
