Carl Sellgren is a psychiatrist and cell biologist working to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms causing abnormal behavior and cognitive deficits in brain disorders. Dr. Sellgren earned his M.D. and Ph.D. at the Karolinska Insitute and completed his residency at the Karolinska University Hospital. He performed his postdoctoral training at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard before joining the faculty at the Karolinska Institute. A major focus of his lab is developing patient-derived cellular models for discovering new drug targets. In that perspective, the lab is particularly interested in the interplay between neurons and glia cells for the development and maintenance of appropriate brain circuits.
