Dr. Kinzel stayed in Pikeville to complete a family practice residency at Pikeville Medical Center as part of their Family Practice Residency Program. He has worked as a traveling emergency room physician, served as director of a suboxone clinic, and now works in outpatient primary care.

While in medical school, Dr. Kinzel performed independent research and published an article entitled "Prevalence of Cardiac Myxomas in the Appalachian Population". His clinical interests are all aspects of primary care with an emphasis on chronic pain and chronic disease states. He enjoys participating in medical education by participating in the writing of in-service questions for osteopathic residents and by hosting medical students at his clinic.
