Dr C.T.J. Hulshof (1953) has been named Professor by Special Appointment of Occupational Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA). The chair was designated on behalf of the Netherlands Society of Occupational Medicine (NVAB).

As Professor by Special Appointment, Carel Hulshof will work to enhance the scientific base of occupational medicine as a profession and to translate findings from scientific research for use in day-to-day occupational health practice. In particular, his research will examine the factors that promote or impede the implementation of guidelines and innovations, and investigate ways to improve the field’s knowledge infrastructure. Where teaching is concerned, Hulshof is particularly interested in optimising the relevance of occupational medicine curricula taught at university medical centres, and promoting the significance of employment and employment conditions as key determinants of health.
