Nathan N. Alder is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Connecticut. He received his Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis, where he studied the thermodynamics and kinetics of protein transport across membranes. He conducted his postdoctoral training at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, where he used and developed biophysical approaches to investigate the functional dynamics of mitochondrial membrane proteins. Since 2008, he has directed a research program on the analysis of the structure, function, and biogenesis of mitochondrial membranes and membrane proteins, particularly those relevant to human health and disease. Current research in the Alder laboratory includes mitochondrial-targeted therapeutics for heritable and aging-related mitochondrial dysfunction.
