Dr. Camila Esguerra is a Group leader in Chemical Neuroscience at the Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM), University of Oslo, Norway. Her research focuses on chemical biology and disease modeling of epilepsy syndromes and other neurological disorders. She obtained her Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of Leuven, Belgium, and is an expert in zebrafish-based functional genomics and early-stage pre-clinical drug discovery, with relevant training and experience in both academia and industry. Over the past decade, Dr. Esguerra has built up a substantial bioassay platform for modeling multiple human disorders and performing systematic, large-scale in vivo chemical modifier screens to identify new pharmacological tools and drug leads. She has also collaborated with industrial partners in the use of the zebrafish platform for disease modeling, pre-clinical drug development, biomarker discovery, and toxicity assessment of hit compounds and drug leads.
