Caitriona Cunningham is a graduate of UCD's B.Physio programme. Having gained extensive clinical physiotherapy experience in Ireland the UK and USA she specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, completing her MSc (Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy) at University College London in 1997 and PhD in relation to occupational musculoskeletal disorders at University College Dublin in 2007. Her current research interests include bone health and fracture prevention, musculoskeletal health service evaluation and promotion of physical activity and exercise in health and disease. She has disseminated her research findings widely in international, refereed journals and at national and international research meetings.

She is an active member of various professional and research associations, including , International Fragility Fracture network, Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (UK) Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health and Ergonomics, Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport and Exercise Medicine, UK Society for Back Pain Research. Previously, she served as Chairperson of the Chartered Physiotherapists in Education(ISCP), driving a number of innovative education initiatives and she continues to be strongly committed to teaching and learning and knowledge transfer to a wider community.
