Bruce Torbett PhD, MSPH

Dr. Bruce E. Torbett, PhD, MSPH, is a leading biomedical researcher and Principal Investigator of the Torbett Lab at Seattle Children’s Research Institute. He also serves as Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies.

Dr. Torbett’s research focuses on HIV biology, gene therapy, and viral-host interactions to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for HIV, cancer, and genetic diseases. His multidisciplinary work explores viral entry, evolution, and assembly, as well as the use of engineered viral vectors to deliver genes into hematopoietic stem cells.

Over his career, Dr. Torbett has contributed significantly to advances in understanding HIV drug resistance, viral replication, and gene delivery technologies. He has led major collaborative initiatives, including co-directing the NIH-funded B-HIVE Center, a multi-institutional effort to study HIV at the molecular and genomic levels and identify new therapeutic targets.

Known for his interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Torbett integrates molecular biology, structural biology, and computational methods to uncover mechanisms of disease and translate discoveries into potential clinical applications. His work continues to drive progress toward more effective and durable treatments for HIV and other complex conditions.
