Bruce E. Pollock MD

Bruce E. Pollock, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Professor of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with a joint appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Internationally recognized as a pioneer in stereotactic radiosurgery, he specializes in the surgical management of trigeminal neuralgia, Gamma Knife radiosurgery for benign and malignant brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), pituitary adenomas, and other complex intracranial disorders. Since joining the Mayo Clinic staff in 1997, Dr. Pollock has performed more than 4,000 Gamma Knife radiosurgery procedures and has become a leading authority in minimally invasive neurosurgical treatments.

Dr. Pollock earned his Bachelor of Science from Allegheny College and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship, a neurosurgery residency, and a fellowship in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has dedicated his career to advancing image-guided neurosurgery and evidence-based treatment strategies for patients with complex neurological conditions.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Pollock leads an internationally recognized research program focused on patient outcomes following stereotactic radiosurgery. His investigations examine the comparative effectiveness of surgical treatments for trigeminal neuralgia, staged-volume radiosurgery for large arteriovenous malformations, and radiosurgical management of pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, vestibular schwannomas, brain metastases, and other intracranial diseases.

He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has served in numerous leadership roles within the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. His contributions to the field have been recognized with prestigious honors, including the Jacob I. Fabrikant Award from the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society and the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Clinician Award.
