Bruce A. Molitoris MD

Dr. Molitoris works on acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and albuminuria as seen in type 2 diabetes. He has a particular interest in the etiology and pathophysiology of albuminuria as it relates to the glomerular filtration barrier and also proximal tubule uptake and reclamation. He will be using the imaging core extensively. He has developed Munich Wistar rats with surface glomeruli containing fluorescently labeled podocytes and also a diphtheria toxin receptor within the podocytes. This will allow him to understand the role of the podocyte in diabetes and its relationship to glomerular scieving coefficient changes.
