Dr. Brooke Hoots works at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the Overdose Epidemiology and Surveillance Team as a Health Scientist. Brooke has a Ph.D. and MSPH in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health and joined CDC in 2011 as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer working in the Division of STD Prevention.
She has worked in the fields of STD and HIV prevention and surveillance for over 12 years. She has a strong interest in epidemiologic methods and surveillance and most of her previous publications focused on behavioral and clinical outcomes of people living with HIV, particularly men who have sex with men and persons who inject drugs. Since joining the Overdose Epidemiology and Surveillance Team, she has co-authored the second annual Surveillance Report and she serves as a science officer on Enhanced State Opioid Overdose Surveillance.
