Bronek Boszczyk completed his medical training in Germany with electives spent in South Africa and USA. He became involved in anatomical research of the spine in his first years of medical school under the mentorship of Professor R Putz of the renown Anatomical Institute of the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich. This led to a dedicated interest in the field of spinal disorders which influenced his subsequent postgraduate surgical training which was divided between Orthopaedic surgery and Neurosurgery in centres with a focus on spinal surgery. PD Dr. med. Boszczyk's initial spine surgery training as a resident in Orthopaedic surgery in 1998 was under the mentorship of Professor M. Mayer in Munich who encouraged him to obtain combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical training. In 2003 he completed his Neurosurgical training under the mentorship of Dr. Jaksche of the Murnau Trauma Centre in Bavaria and subsequently embarked on a period of specialist spine surgery training. This training period was spent in the Department for Spinal Cord Injuries of the Murnau Trauma Centre in Germany, the Orthopaedic Department of the University of Berne in Switzerland and the Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery in Nottingham UK. PD Dr. med. Boszczyk was appointed as Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery of Nottingham University Hospitals in 2007 and was elected Head of Service in 2010.
