Dr. Bronagh Blackwood, Ph.D. a Professor in Critical Care at the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast. Bronagh leads research in the field of mechanical ventilation and interventions to improve outcomes for intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Bronagh has published a number of systematic reviews evaluating the evidence for physical rehabilitation post-ICU; protocolized weaning, automated systems, and contextual factors that impact the duration of mechanical ventilation in adults and children. Bronagh a chief investigator on a UK multi-center clinical trial of ventilator weaning in children; and joint chief investigator for a study investigating support needs of ICU survivors. Bronagh leads the Outcome Measures Working Group for the International Federation of Acute Care Trialists in establishing a framework for standard setting in trial outcomes.
