Dr. Brigitta Cintron is a nationally certified and Florida licensed Physician Assistant and a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist. Dr. Cintron graduated Valedictorian of Cottondale High School in 1997. Cottondale is a small, rural town in Northwest Florida. She then attended Florida State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science with Magna Cum Laude honors in 2000. Two months later, Dr. Cintron began Physician Assistant school at the University of Florida. In June 2002, she received her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
Dr. Cintron began her PA career in Primary Care. In 2007, she decided to focus exclusively on Tobacco Cessation and Training. For seven years, Dr. Cintron had been employed by the Big Bend Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in Tallahassee, Florida and was solely responsible for overseeing a satellite office in Marianna, Florida. She facilitated Quit Smoking Now and Tools to Quit classes throughout various communities and worksites in Florida. She also trained countless cessation facilitators, healthcare professionals, and students. She was the host of a weekly television show entitled Tobacco Talks! that aired on Comcast channel 4. Dr. Cintron wrote a book entitled, Quit Smoking Success, which was published by Authorhouse and released in October 2009.
In November 2015, Dr. Cintron obtained her Mobile Integrated Healthcare credential and began working in transitional care. She provided in-home care for patients who were at high risk for hospital readmission. She also worked to decrease the inappropriate utilization of the healthcare system by seeing patients identified to be frequently visiting emergency rooms. The goal of this type of care is to help patients understand how to better manage their healthcare issues and seek treatment via appropriate avenues. In December 2016, Dr. Cintron accepted a position as founding principal faculty for the Florida State University College of Medicine, School of Physician Assistant Practice. Professor Cintron is a member of the team that welcomed the inaugural class of FSU PA students in August 2017. In Summer 2019, Professor Cintron received her Doctor of Medical Science Degree from the University of Lynchburg.
