Brian Berg has a Ph.D. in Theoretical Mechanics where his thesis was on the bending & tensile behavior of Nitinol. He joined the R&D stent group in Boston Scientific in 1997 to do fatigue testing on their Nitinol stent. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow in that group leading fatigue test development for various implantable cardiovascular devices. For each device, his work begins with determining the loads on those devices in vivo. Brian is also a long standing member of the ASTM subcommittee on stent standards (F04.30.06). For that committee, he is leading the completion of a guide to using Fatigue to Fracture methods for evaluating cardiovascular medical devices. Brian has also helped develop ASTM standards associated with stent securement, stent mechanics, implant corrosion testing, implant heating during Magnetic Resonance imaging, and others.
