Brian Kuhlman, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received a B.A from Rice University in chemical physics and a PhD in chemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, working in the laboratory of Daniel Raleigh. As a postdoctoral fellow in David Baker’s laboratory at the University of Washington he developed new computational protocols for protein design in the modeling program Rosetta.

Dr. Kuhlman’s laboratory continues to develop and apply new algorithms in Rosetta for protein design, and has focused on the creation of new protein-protein interfaces, photactivatable protein switches, and tertiary structures. Over the last several years, his laboratory has collaborated with Eli Lilly to redesign interfaces between the heavy and light chain of antibodies to enable the creation of IgG Bispecific antibodies.
