Dr. Cornelius is a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and clinical researcher at Ochsner LSU Health and academic faculty at and Midwestern University. He has 24 years of clinical care to include work in pre-hospital, emergency and critical care prior to beginning his practice as an anesthetist. His research interests include; management of acute trauma patients, evaluating their outcomes based upon pharmaceutical interventions and large volume transfusions and care of trauma patients in tactical and austere environments He also has special interests in emergency and pre-hospital medicine to include disaster response and air medical transport. His investigations have evaluated to evaluate outcomes after administration of tranexamic acid and calcium chloride in major trauma patients. This included subset evaluations in rates of transfusion after tranexamic acid administration. These studies found that patients receiving tranexamic acid survived in spite of high mortality injuries. Additionally, he has investigated the impact of sedative agent selection on outcomes in patients with intracranial hypertension, this revealed a significant reduction in mortality when patients received Ketamine for sedative induction.
