Brett M. Peterson, MD was in grammar school, my family moved to a fairly rural area in Northern California. While working on our ranch, my father, a dentist, lacerated the tendons and nerves in his index finger. After surgery and rehabilitation, he was eventually able to return to work, but the injury had a big impact on our family. This was likely a significant factor in my becoming a hand surgeon. Most of my training has been in Los Angeles, but I was fortunate to spend almost a year studying abroad in Freiburg, Germany. My wife and I met during our medical residencies at UCLA. We are now happily living in Orange County with our son.
