Brendan Kelly a Professor of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin, a Consultant Psychiatrist at Tallaght University Hospital, and the author of 'The Science of Happiness: The Six Principles of a Happy Life and the Seven Strategies for Achieving It' (Gill Books, 2021). In addition to his medical degree (MB BCh BAO), Brendan Kelly holds master's degrees in epidemiology (MSc), healthcare management (MA), and Buddhist studies (MA); an MA (jure official) from Trinity College Dublin; and a doctorate in medicine (MD), history (Ph.D.), governance (DGov) and law (Ph.D.). Brendan Kelly has authored and co-authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and 600 non-peer-reviewed publications. These cover a range of themes relating to mental health, law, history, and related topics. Brendan Kelly's research interests include the epidemiology of psychosis, mental health services, the history of psychiatry, and human rights in mental health. Brendan Kelly is most interested in the extent to which persons with mental illness participate in civic and social life, and the barriers they and their families face in exercising their rights, including economic and social rights. Brendan Kelly contributes frequently to print and broadcast media and writes regularly for the medical press. Brendan Kelly Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry (since 2017) and Dun's Librarian at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (since 2020).
