Bram C. J. Van Der Eerden PhD

Bram van der Eerden was trained as a biomedical scientist who obtained his PhD in Leiden in 2002. As a post-doc at the department of Internal Medicine of the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, he performed many studies related to bone and mineral metabolism. The studies dealt with a wide variety of approaches, ranging from fundamental projects, using human bone cells and mouse models, to clinical and population-based cohort studies. Since 2015, he has been leading the research group of Calcium and Bone Metabolism of the department of Internal Medicine at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, which he took over from Johannes van Leeuwen, a previous ECTS board member. Among other research topics, he is currently focusing on regenerative medicine of bone and phosphate homeostasis.

Bram is an executive board member of the Bone Marrow Adipose Society (BMAS) and co-chair of the education committee of the ECTS. He acts on the advisory board of the Dutch society for Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva as well as in the program committee of the European Society of Endocrinology and the Herbie Fleisch meeting of the IFMRS. He has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed papers, several of which several in high-impact journals, such as Nature (2016), Cell stem cell (2016), PNAS (2005, 2015), Nature Communications (2018), and Cell Reports (2018). In the PhD training course, he will discuss recent findings from his lab and others concerning regenerative medicine of bone and fracture healing.
