Prof. Grimbacher was critically involved in the identification of the first three genetic causes of common variable immunodeficiency, the most prevalent primary human immunodeficiency; three causes of severe congenital neutropenia including the Kostmann syndrome; and more recently the causes of the hyper IgE syndromes, chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, and the first monogenetic cause for inflammatory bowel disease. Prof. Grimbacher was critically involved in the identification of more than 12 monogenetic causes for primary immunodeficiencies.
