Bikram Subedi PhD

Dr. Bikram Subedi, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Louisiana State University (LSU) College of the Coast & Environment. His research applies analytical chemistry and environmental science to investigate trace-level chemical contaminants and emerging public health concerns. Dr. Subedi earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Master of Science in Physical Chemistry from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal, followed by a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Baylor University.

His research focuses particularly on wastewater-based epidemiology, using chemical analysis of wastewater to assess community-level patterns of illicit drugs and emerging psychoactive substances, including fentanyl, cathinones, cannabinoids, xylazine, and nitazenes. He also investigates the environmental occurrence, transport, distribution, and health implications of contaminants such as PFAS, microplastics, nanoplastics, plasticizers, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

Dr. Subedi has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications addressing wastewater surveillance, pharmaceutical and illicit drug residues, emerging contaminants, and environmental pollution. His recent work includes developing wastewater-based methods for detecting emerging synthetic opioids and investigating PFAS contamination in Louisiana waterways. In recognition of his research contributions, Dr. Subedi received the 2025–26 CC&E Outstanding Faculty Research Award for Tenure-Track Faculty. He also teaches Introduction to Environmental Sciences at LSU.
