Bianca Y. Mccarthy PhD

Bianca completed her undergraduate and Honours studies in the field of chemistry at the University of Queensland, Australia in 2010, and her post-graduate studies in the field of physiology at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2017. Her thesis examined the role of various vitamin D metabolites, as well as vitamin D-like compounds, in protecting the skin against UV effects, namely DNA damage, skin tumour development, and photoaging.

Other than her academic achievements, Bianca also has experience working in the personal care industry. She started her career as a formulation chemist at a leading personal care contract manufacturer in Queensland, Australia. It was during this time that she completed the SCS Diploma in Cosmetic Science. Bianca has also worked in a commercial capacity, as a technical account manager for a global chemical distribution company, focusing on the personal care portfolio.

Most recently, Bianca started a new role at the Shiseido Global Innovation Centre in Yokohama, Japan, where she continues to pursue her research interests in sunlight-induced effects in the skin, with the goal of developing new topical solutions to reduce the burden of skin cancer and photoaging.
