Bevin Gangadharan BSc, DPhil

Bevin is a research associate in the group using proteomics to identify and validate novel serum/plasma biomarker candidates for liver fibrosis in hepatitis C patients. He carried out his DPhil in the Zitzmann group where he used 2D-PAGE to identify serum biomarker candidates for liver fibrosis.

Before joining the Zitzmann group he obtained his BSc (Hon) in Medical Biochemistry at the University of Surrey with his dissertation on investigating different membrane compositions for the optimization of biosensors. During his BSc, he carried out his Professional Training at SmithKline Beecham and GlaxoSmithKline where he looked at ways of improving the representation of low abundant plasma proteins by depleting high abundant proteins and also compared different protein gel stains.

Bevin works with others in the group and collaborators to help use proteomics to investigate several viral systems. This includes the identification of protein expression changes in cells infected with HCV, hepatitis B virus, herpes simplex virus and also using proteomics to investigate cell signaling in HIV. Bevin is also on the editorial board for Biomarker Research and gives proteomics lectures to students in the department.
