Betsey Lau-Robinson is the Head of Safeguarding Adults & the Mental Capacity Act at the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Betsey has acquired extensive experience in cardiac theatres management during her career across the NHS, HCA Healthcare International & the Caribbean. She has been the Head of Safeguarding & the MCA at UCLH for the past 12 years.

Her portfolio at UCLH for the past 17 years includes being the Trust Lead for Pre-registration Nursing & Midwifery Education. She used her expert knowledge as an MBA graduate to make large efficiency savings as Project Manager for Mckinsey Efficiency Projects and as General Manager at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery. In addition, at UCLH, she delivers “Professionalism” as her specialist subject, which was part of her Ph.D. thesis.

Betsey was part of the team with the Law Commission (May 2018) who presented at the Joint Committee for Human Rights at the Houses of Parliament on the proposed reforms to the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act, which received Royal Assent in May 2019. The new Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) which replaces Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards is due to be implemented in April 2022.
