Biography :

Beth N. Peshkin, MS, CGC is a Professor of Oncology on the Medical Educator Track. She is the Senior Genetic Counselor at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Education Director for the Jess and Mildred Fisher Center for Familial Cancer Research. Ms. Peshkin is the course director for TBIO 558, Contemporary Issues in Genetics and Society, where she uses cases and Socratic teaching methods to generate discussion among students in this seminar-type class.

She is the course director for the M4 clinical genomics elective (OMED 510) in which medical students rotate through four genomics clinics at GUMC. She is also an M2 Health Care Ethics small group preceptor and participated in GUMC’s first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) called, Genomic Medicine Gets Personal. Ms. Peshkin is the director of the Fisher Center’s summer cancer genetic counseling fellowship and oversees the genetics curriculum for MedStar’s breast surgery fellowship. With expertise in cancer genetic counseling and testing as well as clinical ethics, she is a frequent lecturer in undergraduate, graduate and medical school courses.
