Dr. Shaz directs all medical activities, hemophilia services, transfusion services, the cellular therapy laboratory, bone marrow recruitment and donation, perioperative autologous services, and apheresis services. Additionally, as a Fellow at LFKRI, she is developing a pooled pathogen reduced red blood cell product. She has been widely recognized for her work in massive transfusion and blood donation in underrepresented minorities.
Prior to coming to New York, Dr. Shaz worked at Emory University as an associate professor and director of the transfusion service at Grady Memorial Hospital. Previous to Emory, she was an instructor at Harvard Medical School and assistant medical director of the transfusion service and medical director of the transfusion/apheresis unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
