Dr. Bernard J. Costello serves as Senior Associate Dean and Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Costello is Chief of Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, and a surgeon with the Cleft and Craniofacial Center. He is Co-Director of the Dentofacial Interdisciplinary Team, and the Fellowship Director of the Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery program at the School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Costello earned his doctorates in both dentistry and medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. Following his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, he completed a Craniofacial Fellowship at the Posnick Center for Facial Surgery and Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Costello has served in leadership positions with a number of professional societies and foundations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, as Vice-President of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, and as Past-President of the American Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Dentists.
