Benjamin J. Smith, PA-C, DFAAPA, is a physician assistant in Rheumatology at the McIntosh Clinic, P.C. in Thomasville, GA. He received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Georgia in 1997 (Cum Laude) and his PA degree in 1999 from the Medical College of Georgia (Summa Cum Laude). His professional memberships include being a distinguished fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and a member of the Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals (ARHP), Georgia Association of Physician Assistants (GAPA), and the Georgia Society of Rheumatology (GSR).

He has served on several American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/ARHP task forces and committees and currently serves as the Rheumatology e-Bytes Scientific Editor. Mr. Smith was elected the 43rd ARHP President in November 2011, the first physician assistant to serve in this capacity. He was the first ARHP member to serve on the American College of Rheumatology Executive Committee. He is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Rheumatology Board. Currently, he is the chair of the AAPA Commission on Continuing Professional Development and Education.
