Dr. Benjamin D. Zeitlin is an Associate Professor at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. He completed his Ph.D. at Sheffield Hallam University where he studied the immunopharmacology of novel anti-inflammatory zinc compounds. Dr. Zeitlin entered the field of cancer research investigating novel ruthenium alternatives to traditional platinum chemotherapeutic agents during his postdoc in Cancer at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
Then, as a Research Fellow at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, he studied anti-cancer and anti-angiogenic plant-derived compounds in the laboratory of Dr. Jacques Nör. During that time, he created a novel three-dimensional cell culture model of endothelial cell angiogenic sprouting for improved quantitative testing of angiogenesis-modulating drugs. His interest in the better physiological modeling of cell growth in three-dimensional culture led him to apply these same growth conditions to the culture of dental pulp stem cells in vitro and in vivo.
