Benjamin Rowland has a long-standing interest in the cell cycle. Already during his PhD at the NKI he studied cell cycle regulation in mammalian cells by E2F transcription factors and the p53 pathway. He has investigated sister chromatid cohesion mediated by the cohesin complex since he joined the laboratory of Kim Nasmyth as a postdoc at the University of Oxford. Here he studied the mechanism of cohesion establishment and he developed his expertise in yeast genetics and biochemistry. Benjamin returned to he NKI in 2012 to start his own line of research. He now uses a multi-disciplinary approach to investigate chromosome organization by SMC complexes.
