Associate Professor Ben Smith is a Senior Implementation Scientist at The Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between Cancer Council NSW and the University of Sydney, and a Cancer Institute NSW Career Development Fellow. With over 16 years of research experience, his work focuses on improving the accessibility, equity, and sustainability of cancer care, particularly through the development, evaluation, and implementation of evidence-based interventions for fear of cancer recurrence (FCR).

A/Prof Smith has led pioneering research that has shaped international guidelines, developed validated screening tools, and created both face-to-face and digital FCR interventions now used globally. He has secured over $12 million in research funding, published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, and established a strong reputation for translating psycho-oncology research into practice, with a focus on addressing the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse, as well as Indigenous, communities. His growing leadership in implementation science and mentorship of emerging researchers continues to drive innovation in survivorship care across Australia and beyond.
